Kick Fatigue Out, bring Vitality In!

With extra daylight, warm weather, and plenty to do, summer is the most frustrating time of year to be suffering from fatigue. However, by determining and treating the causes of being chronically tired, we can regain our energy and enjoy the summer months.

Causes of Fatigue: Sleep, Stress, and Anemia

Some of the most common reasons people feel fatigue without having a more serious illness are inadequate rest, adrenal stress, and anemia. Insomnia and poor sleep are incredibly common; these are the most important factors in maintaining and regaining good health! Some of the more common reasons for poor sleep are anxiety, physical discomfort, and surprisingly, hunger. Developing good habits to help the body and mind get ready for sleep are crucial.

Stress: An all-too-common energy zapper

In American culture, stress is a way of life. The adrenal glands produce our stress hormones as well as those hormones that make us feel “awake” and refreshed, and if we rely on them too heavily each day, they can become fatigued over time. The best thing to do to support the adrenals is to learn to cope well with stress. However, support for the adrenals through specific supplements may be necessary if they are too tired.

More about Anemia

Finally, in anemia, or too few red blood cells, (the cells that carry oxygen to the rest of the body) a person feels very tired. Commonly, this is caused by a deficiency in Iron or Vitamin B12 which can usually be easily replaced. If you feel chronically tired, contact your health care provider to get assessed to find out why and have the problem corrected!
